Girls’ Beach Wrap

Hey y’all! Happy Tuesday! Hope y’all haven’t melted from the heat wave we’ve been having lately…cr-a-zy hot out there.

I wanted to share with you my latest little project.

My bestie and two of her kids came to town last week for a visit. I was so excited to see them.

She had this adorable bathing suit wrap for her little girl and I just loved it.

We started looking at it and thought, “Hey, we can make these.”

So, we headed out to Wal-mart, with 4 kids and it pouring rain to get the stuff to make one of these wraps…what can I say we are two very determined chicks Winking smile.

We found the cutest and most perfect beach towel to use. It’s a black/white giraffe print with a magenta stripe on either end….perfect.

I must tell y’all that neither of us are “experienced” sewers. We were winging it.

I have to say it was very easy. Because the girls are little, we could use the width of the towel to wrap around them. That meant that three of the four sides was already hemmed…woohoo!

We ironed down the top edge a tiny bit and stitched it.

Then we sewed a bigger hem from the small stitch to insert the elastic into.

Our next task was to figure out how long the Velcro at the ends should be, and then how long should the elastic be??? This is wear my sweet, and much more mathematical than I every could be, showed up and saved two damsels.

We sewed on the underside of the Velcro on.

We threaded the elastic through one end to meet the Velcro. We pulled down the towel to make the length we needed and sewed on the top part of the Velcro to keep the other end of the elastic in place. {Easy as pie, right???}

And wahla…we had our beach bathing suit wrap for our little girls. {I’m getting her initial monogrammed on it as we speak. I can’t wait to get it back.}

We were having so much fun with it because it was such an easy project. We looked down and had a piece of towel left, and I think at the same moment we had the same idea pop into our heads…{we’re good like that}…their American Girl dolls.

We had enough of the towel left over, and we made their dolls a wrap too. It was a bit more sewing because these pieces did not have the three finished sides, so it did require us to make small hems. But we didn’t need elastic in the back. We added the Velcro and some fun ribbon at the bottom.

  1. Very clever idea. Cute too. You need to start your own shop. Have Mommy, daughter and doll matching outfits. Or would that be tacky???
