Labor Day Weekend Full of Fun

This weekend was one of my favorite weekend of the year. It's our annual family-reunion (if you will) with my bestie's family. We rotate each year...one year we go to Lexington and the next year they come here to Raleigh. This year it was our turn to go to Lexington.
Before we left on Friday morning, Eric and the kids had to get rid of an unwanted tenant in the hill between our house and our neighbors'.

Yes, that would be a H.U.G.E. hornet...it has to be the biggest hornet I've ever seen in my life. Eric has already sprayed the holes that he (or she) digs every day and then surveys the land for food. We are lucky no one has gotten stung by that thing and now we don't have to worry about it.
Whew, the hornet is dead and now it's time to hit the road.
Can you tell these two are super excited?
Problem...it's an 8 hour drive and they are so excited, it might be a long trip.
But, we set off and just on queue they began asking when we were going to be there before we even got out of Raleigh.
The trip was long and filled with lots of whining and impatientness, but we did have some cute moments.
We are huge fans of The Zac Brown Band, and our kids know the words to pretty much every song. I couldn't help but take a video of them singing...it was just too cute.
We also came across some of our favorite spots along the way.
First off, the mountain with a pimple on top in Mount Airy...
The kids also love to go through the two tunnels that are in Virginia.
{I only got a picture of the second one though.}
So, like I said, it was a very long ride...the kids were so excited to get there that they were pretty fussy and whiny, but once we got there they were happy little clams...
well we all were {especially me}.
We just hung out the rest of the evening, had dinner, and catch up while the kids played.
We put the kids to bed and then hung out for a while.
Hunter decided to mess things up a bit because he was not tired. So, he got to stay up a little later and hang out. And I'll just go ahead and tell you that he did not sleep well all weekend. For some reason he kept waking up and ended up in our bed.
{which is something we never do}
Saturday, Liz and I got up and went for a quick run before Clay's T-ball practice. When we got home the boys all left and we hung out for a while and did girly things like paint the girls' toenails...so fun.
We then all decided that since it was going to be such a hot day we would go to the pool. We got to go to the neighborhood pool.
Their neighborhood pool is really nice and it has a diving board. I didn't think pools had those anymore, but this one does. Much to my surprise the kids were very excited about jumping off including my kids.

 Clay went first and then Hunter. It's hard to tell the difference between the two because they are both wearing the same bathing suits and with both of them having blond hair it can get confusing.

I was so proud of my kids for jumping off the diving board and swimming to the side of the pool. Granted Eric or I was there in the water to help them if they needed it, but they didn't need help...they seemed like old pros.
After the pool we decided to go get frozen yogurt and then home for rest...
we were all exhausted from all that swimming.
We went out to dinner that night to a really yummy restaurant, Regatta.
It was pretty warm but we braved it and ate outside but not before feeding the fish and ducks.

Sunday we all were pooped. Hunter still wasn't sleeping and we were so busy on Saturday we just felt like chilling Sunday.

We did make a trip to Gatti Town for lunch. The kids played some games and we ate a really yummy lunch.

After Gatti Town, Liz and I snuck out for some muchly needed bestie time away from the kids. We did a little shopping but didn't really buy anything.
Everyone finally slept well last night and it was about time.
This morning we woke up and it was time to go. Somehow our weekend was over and it was time to make our trek home.
It was a much quieter trip {especially from the kids}.
We made it home in great time and now it's time to start a new {short} week.
As usual we had an amazing time with our friends. On the way home Dallas and Hunter said they wished we lived in Kentucky so we could be closer to them.
It's definitely a fun time when we're together,{and a little chaotic} but I wouldn't have it any other way.
